Richard Zauft, the former president of CBAA, has been named the new Dean of the College of Art and Design at Lesley University in Cambridge Massachusetts. Richard has held the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs at Emerson College in Boston since 2004 and has also fulfilled other roles at that school such as Executive Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies, and Dean of Graduate Studies. He serves as president of CBAA from 2010 to the beginning of 2014.
Richard’s earlier academic career includes serving as art department Chair at the University of South Dakota, and Chair of the Visual Arts Department, and later Associate Dean, of the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
As an art maker, Richard makes letterpress broadside prints and artist’s books. He designs, illustrates, and hand prints letterpress printed broadsides of visual interpretations of poetry, commissioned commemorative prints, political and social satire and humor, personal celebrations, and prints showcasing historical applications of typography. He has lectured and exhibited across the country and been recognized as a Visiting Artist at Columbia College of Art and Design in Chicago, at Indiana University, Washington University in St. Louis, Wellesley College, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
