If you are flying through Minneapolis and have an extra day, stop by Minnesota Center for Books Arts/Open Book for two events with founding CBAA member Karen Wirth. 1011 Washington Ave, Minneapolis MN
Open Book Performance Hall: Wednesday June 4, 6–8pm
Join us for an artist talk with 2024 McKnight Book Artist Fellow Karen Wirth, as she reflects on her transformative fellowship year. The talk will be followed by a conversation with visiting book artist Clifton Meador, exploring the concept of place in artists’ books—particularly in relation to Wirth’s recent travels to the Arctic, her research, and new book work. A reception and visit to the gallery follows the talk.
MCBA Main Gallery: Tues–Sat, 10am–5pm, Thursday 8pm on June 4, and Sunday, 11am–3pm.
Wirth’s architectural book-related works read as poetic stanzas truly displaying what architectural storytelling is. The exhibition in the Main Gallery expands into MCBA’s Outlook Gallery and Open Book's Literary Commons. Wirth’s expansive practice—ranging from book to public art to book-related installation—positions this exhibition to encompass the values of Open Book as a fully public building where under one roof people hand bind handmade paper, write poetry, and publish a full spectrum of literary work.

Exhibition Opening Reception: Thursday: 3-5 PM:
The Design Studies MFA program has consistently drawn artists and designers working within the expansive area of Fiber and Material Studies. With mentorship from Professor Mary Hark, the following artists bring a textile sensibility to hand papermaking within their practice, through their rising professional and graduate school experience. Additionally, several artists represented have been contributors to our program. The works in this exhibition consider ways in which handmade paper is both a traditional and experimental textile medium for interdisciplinary exploration.
