The fields of book and print have a long tradition of being community-based arts. From apprenticeship models in teaching to community-shared equipment and spaces, we rely on our fellow artists to preserve our crafts through teaching and mentoring. The past few years have brought about challenges to this model. We have had to physically isolate ourselves from each other, relying on virtual communication; we have had limited access to shared spaces, hacking our processes to adapt to at-home studios; and we have had to reckon with familiar models of education that are exclusive and reinforce racism and elitism. How have we risen to these challenges? How have we relied on our community? And what is our vision for the future of our community?
Join us via Zoom for a Keynote Presentation with Quarantine Public Library, a Panel Discussion with four leaders in the non-profit book arts world, and CBAA's Annual Business Meeting where Board Members and Committee Chairs will report on the state of the organization. In addition, you will be invited to join individual CBAA Committee Meetings throughout the week to hear about plans for 2022 and learn how you can get involved. All of these events are free to attend for all Members of the College Book Art Association.
Finally, in collaboration with consultants Cabal + Cairo, you will have the opportunity to register for a participatory Workshop that focuses on Leading with Equity. Space is limited in these workshop sessions, and we are requesting a $10 commitment to attend. The money collected from these sessions will be used to support the CBAA Member Support Grants. If you would like to participate, but the fee prevents you from doing so, please email meetings@collegebookart.org for a waiver. Please register for only ONE of these workshops.
Visit our Schedule and list of Featured Speakers and Organizations for detailed program information.
Registration and Membership is required for all events and Donations are welcome. Be sure to register before February 16, 2022, to guarantee access. Day-of registration will not be available. Questions? Contact Amanda D'Amico, Vice Chair of Meetings, at meetings@collegebookart.org.
